"Kzinti Warrior", Baen Books, Acrylic, 1986

At the time, Iwas working on a drawing of one of Larry Niven's Kzin, I wasn't
worried about who might see it. It was an exercise, that's all. I didn't even
finish the drawing and it ended up stuck in the back of my closet. Until the next
February, the month of the annual "Boskone" New England Science
Fiction Association convention art show. My wife, Ellen, started searching
through that closet looking for art we could sell. She found the unfinished
Kzin ( pronounced Kuh-zin ). I objected mightily saying that not only was
it unfinished, I didn't like it very much.

It won 1st prize professional black & white and right there at the convention
I made my first sale to a book publisher with it.

I felt better about it after that, but it's still not my favorite.
