"Speaker
To Animals", Baen Books, Acrylic, 1987
Okay...so the Kzin was pretty good luck for me. I still
don't think these
Kzin are alien enough to convince me. But so what? He did okay for me.
So when I needed art for a bookmark I was making for a giveaway at the
World SF Convention in Atlanta, 1986, I made another drawing of a
Kzin. At the con I ran into Mr. Jim Baen of Baen Books. Guess what?
He commissioned a painting of that bookmark drawing on the spot. For a
follow-up on the story that I illustrated previously. Really, I hadn't a
clue!
I wish I could say I was a shrewd fellow. But really, I just do my art.
Yes, I do work very hard and long. But what comes of all that
work just seems like good luck to me.
