"Crystal Memory", Doubleday SF Bookclub, Acrylic, 1987

I received a letter from Stephen Leigh, the author of "The Crystal Memory".
He seemed to be quite happy with my cover art for that book. Which made
me very happy in turn. It was an excellent story, which made creating a
cover easy for me. Note the children's scrawl on the console next to the
pilot's seat. I felt that there should have been more of it. Up on the ceiling
in particular. Weightlessness, you know. I didn't add it up there because
the whole idea occurred to me after I'd gotten approval on the rough sketches.
So I did it without asking if it would upset anyone. Then after submitting
the art and seeing it published the art director said that I should have
added more "kid art" in the piece. I was too cautious.
